Oundle CE Primary School are proud to announce the completion of their new Change 4 Life garden.
Within this setting, there is now an area for each class from Year 2 to Year 6 to have the opportunity to do some gardening; the aim is to grow plants and vegetables throughout the year.
This links nicely to some topics that they will be covering but will also allow children to become more active throughout the school day.
Within the garden, we also now have a ‘Pocket Nature Reserve’ where we hope wildlife will settle. We have already had a frog settle within the pond area. Our children will have opportunities to read quietly and have a calm time there during playtime to relax their body and mind.
A huge thank you goes to James Gilbert from Lacewing Garden Designs for all the hard work he has put into making the ‘Pocket Nature Reserve’. He spent the whole summer changing the old ‘Red Kite Garden’ into the new beautiful area. He has even given up his time to check the plants are growing correctly. James has also donated a bee box and butterfly box. Without him the area would not be anywhere near as wonderful as it is.
We would also like to thank;
- Tom Adams at Clear Span Arb who donated the logs and wood chips and delivered them for free. He also (unexpectedly) made the timber benches.
- Classic Reclaims Ltd who gave us free delivery of the limestone as a goodwill gesture.
- Ben Robinson from BR Carpentry for making the fence and raised garden beds.
- All of the volunteers who helped to move the endless tons of soil to fill the beds.
