Twelve people (representing parents, staff, church and local authority as well as other areas of the community) are elected or co-opted and usually serve a four-year term of office. A variety of skills and experience is called upon at board level and in committees (working within specific terms of reference) and this enables the governing body to carry out three main tasks:
1. To provide a strategic overview by the setting aims and objectives for our school.
2. To monitor and evaluate progress towards achieving its aims and to act as a ‘critical friend’ to the headteacher.
3. To ensure accountability to pupils, parents, community, local authority and staff.
We are required to provide a specific governor register which includes details of their elected status, terms of office, business or material interests, involvement with other schools and attendance at meetings.
