Year 6 - Maathai Class
Welcome to Maathai’s class page!
The children are really enjoying our class text ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar and we are adding the poem ‘The Highwayman’ as a stimulus for our writing.
Our exciting Geography topic for the whole term up to Easter is The Amazon Rainforest. We will be learning a lot about the human and physical features of this region, as well as studying population trends, weather and climate.
Our DT topic is ‘Frame Structures’. In DT sessions the children will research the use of frame structures, understand how to make and strengthen them and go on to make their own frame structure for a hide or shelter in the Amazon Rainforest. In science we are continuing to learn about classification of living things and move on to looking at micro-organisms. We will cover the seven life processes, the five kingdoms and will also have opportunities to classify a range of items using and designing classification keys.

All about Mrs McDonald
I enjoy sharing long walks with my family, including our very silly dog.
My two children are growing up fast and now tell me they don’t like my cooking, but I am trying to win them over.
One of my favourite hobbies is dancing. I love jive, ballroom and Lindy Hop. It is lots of fun and there is just so much to learn.
I love to go to dance events right across the county. They are a great way to see new places and meet new people.
I like to travel and see new places. One day I would like to travel to the other side of the world on a boat!
Remember!
Wear PE kit on our PE days which are Monday and Friday.
We will have weekly homework through our SATs buster booklets
You must read at least three times a week and record in your reading diary ready for Friday.
